Hand washing is the way, remove the liners and laces and give them a good scrub with some warm water. Do not put them in the washing machine, no matter how tempting it is.

Should I size up in my running shoes?

Yes it's often advisable to go up a half size or size, the aim is to have a thumbs width at the end, to allow for swelling on runs.
